A Case Study Of Using The Satir Family Therapy Model To Relieve Anxiety Of The Mother Of School-age Children

Nowadays,people are facing problems such as increasing inequality of educational resources,increasing pressure on further education and employment,and the mixed media information.Anxiety of parents is very common.Parents are investing more and more money and energy in their children’s education,and their expectations are getting higher,anxiety of them is becoming more common than before.Mothers play a pivotal role in education and play an irreplaceable role in the physical and mental development of children.This paper used the Satir Family Therapy Model to conduct a case study and service intervention on Ms.W,a mother of school-age children who has anxiety.While solving problems for the client,it tries to find an effective way of social work intervention to relieve the anxiety of the mothers of school-age children.This paper mainly used the casework method,and used the participant observation method,the interview method and the scale method to collect research data.By talking with the client,Ms.W,to understand the basic situation of the client and her family and analyze the reasons for her anxiety.This paper used the Satir Family Therapy Model to carry out casework on the client and her families,and used the iceberg model to help client express her real needs and feelings and release inner pressure.Through scene reproduction,the technique of family sculpture was used to show the communication gesture between the client and her husband,which arouses both parties’ thinking and encourages change.When dealing with the parent-child conflict,social worker guided the client to think calmly,mastered the consistent communication method,stabilized and improved the parent-child relationship.This study has drawn the following conclusions:the Satir Family Therapy Model has a positive effect on relieving anxiety of the mother of school-age children.Through the pre-test and post-test comparison of the Self-rating Anxiety Scale（SAS）,it was found that the anxiety of the client,Ms.W,dropped from 60 points before the intervention to 45 points,and the anxiety level decreased form moderate anxiety to the anxiety level below the critical value.It is necessary and feasible for social workers to use the Satir Family Therapy model to provide service treatment for clients.Case work not only resolved the contradictions and conflicts in the client’s family,but also promoted parent-child and husband-wife relationships,improved the poor communication pattern between family members,and helped the client gain the understanding and support of family members.Finally,social worker helped the client relieved psychological pressure and eliminated the negative impact of anxiety on herself.The study achieved good service results.
