Phubbing refers to the behavior of paying attention to the phone while snubbing others in social interaction.Because of its universality and harmfulness, middle school students’ phubbing has been paid more and more attention by school mental health educators.Meaning in life is the understanding and exploration of life and life.Individuals with high sense of meaning of life are more inclined to adopt positive interpersonal communication mode,at the same time, the study confirmed that the meaning in life has a negative predictive effect on the phubbing. However, for the middle school students whose minds are not yet mature, the exploration of life and the meaning in life is accompanied by the process of their interaction with the society, and the meaning in life is more easily influenced by the social adaptation,at the same time, perceived social support will also influence the degree of dependence on mobile phone to some extent.Fo MO refers to the state of diffuse anxiety caused by the fear of missing others’ information, and comprehension of social support refers to the subjective evaluation of objective social support, the latter reflects the individual’s perception level of interpersonal relationship, and the two reflect the individual’s social adaptation from different perspectives.Based on the above, this study examines the relationship between middle school students’ meaning in life and phubbing, including fomo and perceived social support,in order to explore the possible impact mechanism. The study used the wenjuanxing,The Meaning in Life Questionnaire,Generic Scale of Phubbing,Brief Fear of Missing Out scale, and The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support,600 middle school students were tested and 510 valid questionnaires were collected, and then SPSS25.0 was used for data analysis. The results are as follows:(1)Meaning in life was negatively correlated with phubbing, negatively correlated with Fo MO,positively correlated with the perceived social support, and positively correlated with phubbing, there was a significant negative correlation with perceived social support(2)Fo MO plays a part of mediating role between meaning in life and the phubbing(3)perceived social support plays a moderating role between meaning in life and middle school students’ phubbingBased on the discussion of the results, the conclusions are as follows:(1)Meaning in life can significantly and negatively predict the phubbing, which is a direct factor influencing the phubbing(2)Meaning in life can indirectly influence the phubing through Fo MO,that is,the low meaning in life can enhance Fo MO,and then lead to more serious snub behavior of mobile phone, and vice vers.(3)Meaning in life has an indirect effect on the phubbing by perceiving social support. The higher the level of perceived social support by middle school students, the smaller the negative effect of meaning in on phubbing, and vice versa.Based on the findings, the study makes the following recommendations:(1)to strengthen the education of the meaning in life and enhance the students’ meaning in life.(2)to provide effective social support and enhance students’ ability to perceived social support.(3)adjust the emotion reasonably, establish the benign friendship.(4)to set up the correct concept of network use,to prevent the phubbing.
