As the rhythm of online and offline life becomes more and more closely intertwined, people have increasingly rich ways of interaction and leisure. It has become commonplace to communicate and learn about others through social media such as We Chat,QQ and Weibo on mobile phones, but while these mobile social media bring us convenience and efficiency, they also silently fuel our dependence on them. This phenomenon reflects the influence of individuals themselves and their social environment.Combined with the belongingness hypothesis and MSDT,human beings are born with the need for belonging as an intrinsic motivation, which will continue to push individuals to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with others, and mobile social media provides a platform for the satisfaction of the need. The need to belong is likely to be one of the factors influencing mobile social media dependence.By combining the belongingness hypothesis,MSDT and cognitive-behavioral model, this study examines the internal mechanism of attributional need on mobile phone social media dependence in order to deepen the understanding of the potential impact of mobile phone social media dependence on adolescent development. To explore the effects and mechanisms of the need to belong, fear of missing out(Fo MO)and maladaptive cognition on mobile phone social media dependence among middle school students,1117 students in Sichuan Province completed the the Fear of Missing Out Scale,Need to Belong Scale,Maladaptive Cognition Questionnaire, the Mobile Phone Social Media Dependence Questionnaire. The results showed that:(1)The current state of mobile social media dependency among secondary school students is a cause for concern, with more than half of them in the medium range of mobile social media dependency.(2)There were significant gender differences in middle school students’ need to belong, fear of missing out,non-adaptive cognition, and mobile social media dependence.(3)There were significant correlations among the need to belong, fear of missing out, maladaptive cognition and mobile phone social media dependence.(4)The need to belong affected mobile phone social media dependence through the chain mediating path between Fo MO and maladaptive cognition. In addition to directly predicting mobile phone social media dependence, need for belong can also influence mobile phone social media dependence through the indirect path of need for belong—fear of missing out—maladaptive cognition—mobile phone social media dependence. |
