Abstract/Summary:
The rapid growth of China’s economy aggravates the inequality between income and wealth. There is a statistically significant correlation between the educational level of parents and children and their socio-economic status, which means that the influence of the father’s capital on the children’s educational level and professional status is magnified. The gap between the rich and the poor is widening, and the problem of class solidification is prominent. Therefore, based on the data of CFPS in 2010,2012,2014 and 2016,this paper studies the influence of parents’ education level on their offspring’s professional status with educational expectation as the intermediary mechanism. With a view to helping people have a deeper understanding of the acquisition of personal professional status, the gap between educational expectations and the widening gap between the rich and the poor, and to provide a basis for relevant government departments to formulate policy recommendations. In this paper, with the help of Logistic model, parents’ age and political outlook, household registration types, children’s gender, age and other factors that will have an impact on their offspring’s professional status are set as control variables, and the whole sample and the parent and mother samples are studied separately.Three-step intermediary regression analysis was used to further study the urban-rural differences and gender differences between parents’ education level and their offspring’s professional status, and the influence of parents’ education gap on their offspring’s education. It is found that the educational level of parents has a significant positive impact on the professional status of offspring, and the educational level of mothers has a greater impact on offspring than that of fathers;Educational expectation plays an intermediary role in the influence of parents’ education level on their offspring’s professional status; There are urban and rural differences and gender differences in the influence of parents’ education level on their offspring’s professional status: the influence coefficient of father’s education level on children’s professional status in rural areas is greater than that of urban fathers, and with the increase of parents’ education level, the influence degree on daughter’s professional status is greater than that of son;In a family, the greater the educational background gap between father and mother, the greater the negative impact on children’s educational background, thus having a negative impact on the professional status of offspring. Finally, some policy suggestions are put forward: first, pay attention to family education investment and reduce the negative impact of parents’ educational background gap;The second is to rationally allocate urban and rural educational resources and empower rural women; The third is to improve the employment fair mechanism and eliminate unreasonable industry access requirements.
