In recent years, the problem of county-level high school collapse has become more and more serious, causing wide concern. As the collapse of county-level,the previous studies focused on the lost student groups, the reasons for their loss and relevant countermeasures, but did not pay enough attention to the students who did not lose and their structural characteristics. From the perspective of social stratification, this study introduces the concept of school socioeconomic segregation and adopts design of social survey.Based on a large-scale survey of the family background, educational environment and expectational of county-level high school students in Guangdong Province in 2022,this study explores the phenomenon of school socioeconomic segregation in county high school and its relationship with students’ higher education expectations. The data analysis shows that, firstly,There is an obvious social socioeconomic segregation phenomenon in county-level high schools, that is,a large number of students with low socioeconomic status and similar social class, low heterogeneity and poor dispersion of students’ social class.Second,There are obvious inter-school differences in students’ expectations of higher education, and county-level high school students’ expectations of higher education are generally low.Third,School socioeconomic segregation has a significant impact on students’ expectations of higher education, which is mainly reflected in the fact that the lower the average socioeconomic status of the school, the lower the heterogeneity of socioeconomic status, and the lower students’ expectations of higher education; The higher the socioeconomic composition of the school, the better the school climate and the academic performance of the students, the higher the students’ expectations of higher education.Based on the above findings, this study puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions, the first is to strengthen the weak schools, promote the balanced allocation of educational resources in county schools, and rebuild the vitality of the system; The second is to improve the enrollment system of county high schools, strictly implement the "policy of prohibiting cross-regional ’pinching’ ",and ensure fair and open enrollment; The third is to improve the quota recruitment system and diversify the enrollment of high school students in counties; The fourth is to improve the school climate of county-level high schools, strengthen the construction of soft environment, and promote the construction of high-quality teachers in county schools; The fifth is to improve the diversified comprehensive quality evaluation system, change the single evaluation view of "only entering higher schools",transfer from "emphasizing selection" to "emphasizing development",and rebuild the confidence and expectation of county-level high school students. This study has important theoretical and practical significance. Its theoretical significance lies in introducing the concept of school socioeconomic segregation to discuss the structural changes of high school students in counties, providing a new perspective and theoretical resources for understanding the problem of "the collapse of counties".Its main practical significance lies in helping policy makers and managers to formulate and implement targeted programs to improve the quality of education in counties and promote the revitalization of counties.
