The Influence Of College Students’ Ideal-Self,Actual-Self And Perfectionism On Rumination And Its | | Posted on:2022-01-21 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:Q P Liu | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2507306605977569 | Subject:Applied psychology | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | Rumination is a type of negative and repetitive thinking in which individuals who are ruminant focus on negative events.This study examined the relationship among ideal-self,actual-self,perfectionism and rumination.There are two parts in this research.The ideal-self questionnaire and the actual-self questionnaire were revised and their reliability and validity were tested on the basis of the self-discrepancy questionnaire in the first part.A total of 1369 college students were surveyed in this part.The second part tests the relationship between several variables with ideal-self and actual-self as predictive variables,perfectionism as the mediating variable and rumination as outcome variable.718 college students filled out the ideal-self questionnaire,the actual-self questionnaire,the ruminant thinking scale and the perfectionism scale.The study drew the following results:(1)The item analysis of the actual-self and ideal-self questionnaire shows that the scores of ideal-self questionnaire and actual-self questionnaire were significantly correlated with the total score.(2)Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis showed that the ideal-self questionnaire and the actual-self questionnaire were single dimensional questionnaires,and the two questionnaires had good model fitting indexes.The calibration validity analysis shows that the ideal-self questionnaire and the actual-self questionnaire have good calibration validity.At the same time,the reliability analysis shows that both the ideal-self questionnaire and the actual-self questionnaire have good retest reliability and internal consistency reliability.This indicates that the actual-self questionnaire and the ideal-self questionnaire have good reliability and validity.(3)There was an extremely significant negative correlation between actual-self and perfectionism,but perfectionism did not mediate between actual-self and rumination.(4)There was an extremely significant negative correlation between ideal-self and perfectionism,and perfectionism partially mediated the relationship between ideal-self and rumination.The higher the ideal-self and actual-self of college students,the lower rumination is likely to be,the lower rumination is likely to be,and perfectionism will increase rumination in ideal self.This enlightens people to maintain a high ideal-self and actual-self in life to have a relatively healthy psychology. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Ideal-self, Actual-self, Self-discrepancy, Perfectionism, Rumination | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
