Research On The Influence Of Family Intergenerational Relationship On Elderly Labor Participation Behavior

With the development of social economy and the continuous advancement of medical technology,the average life expectancy is continuously increasing.“Population aging” has gradually become a social phenomenon that many countries in the world need to face with caution.The active aging theory put forward earlier abroad emphasizes that improving the social participation of the elderly is an effective means to actively respond to aging,and the labor participation behavior of the elderly is one of the main forms of social participation.In recent years,China has gradually realized that promoting the elderly participation in labor is of great significance to the severe form of aging.The Fourteenth Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of the People’s Republic of China and the Outline of Vision Goals for 2035,which were voted and approved at the Fourth Session of the 13 th National People Congress,clearly stated that “all-round consideration will gradually delay the statutory retirement age and promote the full use of human resources”.Thus,the study of the behavior of the elderly labor force participation has a positive practical significance.The main research contents of this paper are:(1)Based on the fourth phase of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey(China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey)officially released in September 2020,screen 6627 available samples over 60 years old,organize and merge part of the questionnaire content.Divide the total sample and sub-samples of different types of labor(agricultural labor,non-agricultural labor),preliminary analysis of the status quo of labor participation behavior of the elderly in each sample.(2)Taked intergenerational solidarity-conflict theory and work-leisure model as the theoretical framework,determine the index system,by building a Probit model,using STATA16.0 measurement analysis software to empirically analyze the influence of different dimensions of family intergenerational relationship on the labor participation behavior of the elderly.(3)Based on the empirical results,combined with sub-samples,further analyze the heterogeneous influence of family intergenerational relationships on the participation of the elderly in agricultural and non-agricultural labor.The research results of this article show that family intergenerational relations have a significant impact on the labor participation behavior of the elderly:(1)The intergenerational structural relationship has a significant impact on the elderly participation in agricultural labor,and intergenerational separation will promote the elderly to participate in agricultural labor.(2)Intimacy between generations has the opposite effect on the elderly participation in agricultural labor and participation in non-agricultural labor.The stronger the intergenerational intimacy,the higher the possibility of old people participating in agricultural labor,the lower the possibility of participating in non-agricultural labor.(3)In intergenerational functional relationships,intergenerational material support significantly affects the elderly participation in agricultural labor.Intergenerational money to support significant impact on non-agricultural labor force participation of older persons behavior.Intergenerational upward material or financial support has a crowding out effect on the labor participation behavior of the elderly.Sub-generational material or financial support has a crowding-in effect on the labor participation behavior of the elderly.Taking care of grandchildren across generations significantly negatively affects the non-agricultural labor participation behavior of the elderly.(4)Intergenerational conflicts only have a significant impact on the elderly participation in agricultural labor.Moreover,the existence of intergenerational conflict significantly increases the possibility of participation in agricultural labor among the elderly.Based on the above analysis,this article puts forward suggestions and prospects for promoting the participation of the elderly in labor.Such as building a harmonious family intergenerational relationship and reducing the occurrence of intergenerational conflicts.Caring the Empty nester,enhancing intergenerational intimate relationship.Developing the socialized child care service industry to supplement intergenerational functional relationships.
