In the field of competitive sports in China, there are many factors that affect team performance.Among them, the leadership behavior of coaches is one of the influencing factors of team performance. In the organization of a competitive sports team, compared with athlete, the coach is the direct leader(manager)of the athlete. As the coach manages the athlete, the coach will use different leadership behaviors or styles, and then influence the team performance. At the moment, the research on the influence of coaches’ leadership behaviors in competitive sports teams on team performance in the Chinese context is part of an emerging research field.A large number of studies by foreign scholars have confirmed that coaches’ leadership behavior is an important factor affecting team performance. However, the relevant research is scarce in China at present. It is worth our consideration and research. The purpose of this research is to explore the effects of different leadership behaviors of coaches on team performance in competitive sports teams in the Chinese context. This study can provide a theoretical reference for Chinese competitive sports coaches to create high team performance in training and management. It can also provide some theoretical views that can be referred to by scholars in this field. On top of that,it can make up for the lack of domestic research on this aspect,to a certain extent. It is of great significance for improving the leadership of coaches in China’s competitive sports team, and providing strong support to get higher team performance. At the same time,it may provide theoretical reference for other teams in China, which can improve China’s team management to a certain extent. This study uses the method of literature data, mathematical statistics, questionnaire survey, social experiment, and interview methods.Among them, the last three research methods are mainly verified by mutual methods. At the same time, this study combines situational leadership theory and behavioral theory, use the analysis methods of qualitative and quantitative, theoretical and empirical, and conducted field follow-up surveys of six competitive sports teams,as well as online surveys of one competitive sports team. Finally,it systematically analyzes the follow-up interviews of some of the coaches and athletes. After comprehensive research, the following conclusions are reached:(1)Athletes have a low level of cognition of coaches’ authoritative leadership behavior, athletes have a high level of cognition of team performance;the gender and age of athletes have significant differences in the level of cognition of team performance;men have a higher level of cognition of team performance than women, and older athletes have a higher level of cognition of team performance than younger athletes.(2)In the Chinese context, the authoritative leadership behavior of coaches in competitive sports teams has a significant impact on team performance;the higher the degree of authority of coaches, the lower the team performance.(3)Athletes have a high level of cognition of coaches’ democratic leadership;athletes’ age has a significant difference in democratic leadership behavior, older athletes have a higher level of cognition of democratic leadership behavior.(4)In the Chinese context, the democratic leadership behavior of coaches in competitive sports teams has a significant impact on team performance;the higher the degree of coaches’ democratic behavior, the higher the team performance.(5)Athletes’ cognition of laissez-faire leadership behavior is at a medium to low level;athletes’ sports levels have significant differences in their cognition level of laissez-faire leadership behavior.Compared with second-and first-level athletes, master athletes have a lower level of cognition of laissez-faire leadership.(6)In the Chinese context, the laissez-faire leadership behavior of coaches in competitive sports teams has a significant impact on team performance;the higher the degree of laissez-faire behavior of coaches, the lower the team performance. |
