| As a vulnerable group in society, leftover children cannot get the support and care from their parents, and they have maladjustment problems in life, study, and mental health. With the rapid development of the Internet, different from an occluded state of being left behind in the past, parents can strengthen the emotional connection with their children through online video. However, the Internet is a double-edged sword.Due to the temptation of the Internet, children will have several Internet problems such as internet addiction and other risks. The theory of self-worth orientation believes that parental warmth plays an important role in the development of children’s mind and body as a support resource for self-worth.When children feel sufficient care and warmth in the family, they will weaken their dependence on online social activities and unhealthy social groups so that it can help them promote the development of physical and mental health, thereby reducing their problem of academic adaptation. Therefore, this study, which based on the perspective of self-worth orientation theory, explored the main problems of leftover children who are under the network background(Research 1),the internal mechanism of adaptation problems(Research 2)as well as intervention approaches(Research 3)through qualitative interview, questionnaire survey and group counseling intervention.Study 1 analyzed the psychological status of 15 left-behind children through qualitative interviews. The results showed that the level of parent-child relationship between left-behind children and their parents is at a low level, and there are more conflicts between them, which leads to internal and external adaptation problems. In order to further test the connection between parent-child relationship and other adaptation problems,Study 2 analyzed the relationship between the parent-child relationship, mobile phone dependence, mental health, and academic adaptation of 238 left-behind children through questionnaires. The results show that parent-child relationship is negatively correlated with learning problems, mobile phone dependence, and depression; The level of parent-child relationship of left-behind children is significantly lower than those who are non-leftover children,in addition the level of depression is significantly higher than non-left-behind children;however, they have no significant differences in learning problems and mobile phone dependence.Further analysis found that left-behind experience played a moderating role in the influence of parent-child relationship on depression.Specifically, the prediction of depression by parent-child relationship of left-behind children was significantly higher than those who are non-leftover children.Study 3 intervened the parent-child relationship of left-behind children through group counseling, and the result was that group counseling improved the parent-child relationship of left-behind children,at the meantime it significantly reduced the problems of left-behind children’s mobile phone dependence, depression, and academic adjustment.Although left-behind children cannot live with their parents for a long time, but it does not mean that their emotional connection with their parents will be completely cut off due to distance. With the continuous improvement of modern information technology, they can still maintain close emotional contact with their parents through modern communication technologies like mobile phones, and they can get the care and support from their parents as well.Furthermore, encouraging parents and children to draw closer parent-child relationship can effectively alleviate the psychological and behavioral adaptation problems of left-behind children. The results of this study provide a new perspective for understanding the psychology and behavior of left-behind children, and provide a certain practical reference value for preventing and correcting the psychological and behavioral adaptation of left-behind problems as well. |
