Abstract/Summary:
Background:Depression is a major emotional problem faced by college students, which increases various risky behaviors of college students.Adverse childhood experiences as a risk factor which can trigger the depression.Rumination may be the potential mechanism between them.Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy(MBCT)is helpful to reduce the level of individual’s rumination, and then release depression.Objectives:(1)To explore the relationship among childhood adverse experiences, rumination and depression, and the role of rumination between childhood adverse experiences and depression;(2)For the subjects with depression,an eight-week mindfulness course was designed to intervene their ruminantion,in order to prove that MBCT can reduce the ruminantion of depressed individuals, and then alleviate the depressive mood.Research Methods:In Study 1,random sampling was adopted to select college students from colleges in Zhengzhou and Xinxiang of Henan Province to fill in the questionnaires, and a total of 885 qualified students were finally selected.Adverse Childhood Experiences Scale(CTQ-SF),Ruminaion Scale(RRS)and Simplified Depression Scale(CESD-10)were used.MPLUS 7.0 was used to test the mediating effect of rumination. In Study 2,56 qualified college students and graduate students were screened out from the university in Zhengzhou and randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group, with 28 students in the experimental group and 28 students in the control group.A total of 51 participants(23 in the experimental group and 28 in the control group)completed the eight-week mindfulness intervention. The experimenter carried out eight-week mindfulness intervention once a week,1.5~2 hours each time. After each practice, the subjects were required to finish their homework independently, while the control group was not given any intervention. In this experiment,pre-test and post-test experimental design was adopted, and T test and non-parametric test were used to analyze the data.Results:(1)Adverse childhood experiences of college students are positively correlated with depression;(2)Ruminantion had a significant mediating effect on the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and depression;(3)Except for the description dimension of mindfulness, there was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in the pretest;there were significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in the scores of ruminant, depression, mindfulness level, and the other dimensions except the ruminant reflection dimension and the mindfulness observation dimension;in the experimental group, there were significant differences in the level of ruminantion, depression, mindfulness and the dimensions;except for the description dimension of mindfulness, there were no significant differences in the level of ruminantion, depression, mindfulness and the other dimensions in the control groupConclusion:(1)Adverse childhood experiences can positively predict depressive emotions;(2)In the process of the formation of depression, rumination plays a partial mediating role, that is,adverse childhood experiences of college students can indirectly affect the level of depression through rumination;(3)MBCT can reduce the level of ruminant thinking and depression in college students.By improving their level of mindfulness,it can reduce the level of ruminant thinking and alleviate depression.
