Kenya’s Public Opinion Framework And Issues Concerning China From The Perspective Of Daily Nation

International public opinion reflects the change of international relations and social consciousness.It is of great significance to analyze and judge the situation of China related public opinion in Africa in order to create an international public opinion environment conducive to the development of China Africa cooperation and enhance China’s international communication ability.The opinions and attitudes expressed by international media on a certain topic or object through news reports are an important part of international public opinion.African media’s China related reports also show African people’s opinions and attitudes towards China to a great extent.Therefore,the analysis of China related reports of African media and the study of the characteristics of China related public opinion reflected in them play an important role in further enhancing China’s ability to guide public opinion in Africa,maintaining China’s positive and good image in Africa,and promoting the long-term and healthy development of China Africa relations.Kenya is a coastal country in East Africa and one of the countries with the best economy and the most development prospects in Africa.The United Nations,the World Health Organization,the world bank and other international organizations are set up here,with active political activities and relatively open media environment.Daily Nation is one of the most influential media in Kenya and even East Africa.It plays an important role in guiding public opinion in the process of African National Liberation Movement and the end of colonial rule in Kenya.This paper constructs the news framework of China related reports of Daily Nation from 2015 to 2020,and finds that the majority of China related reports of Daily Nation are economic reports and political reports,the emotional distribution is relatively balanced,the proportion of neutral reports is the largest,the number of positive reports is slightly more than that of negative reports,the overall number of reports is on the decline,and the proportion of negative reports is rising."Infrastructure construction","import and export trade","Sino Kenya relations and international relations","social governance and political corruption","medical cooperation and epidemic prevention and control" and other issues occupy more attention.These issues are not only supported by positive views such as promoting Kenya’s development and learning from China’s experience,but also by negative views such as China’s bringing debt crisis to Africa and China’s proliferation of fake goods.At the same time,they also reflect the changes in Sino Kenyan cooperative relations and the structural differences in Sino Kenyan economy.Based on the analysis of China related reports of Daily Nation and the author’s field research in Kenya,it is found that China’s public opinion guidance in Kenya is facing challenges,such as too concentrated coverage of China,lack of two-way media interaction,repeated outbreak of negative public opinion,and less voice response from institutions in Kenya.These challenges are not only due to the local public opinion environment in Kenya,but also related to the operation and management of Chinese agencies in Kenya.At the same time,some western hegemonic countries covet and instigate.For example,the western hegemonic countries led by the United States distort and question China Africa cooperation in various forms,and constantly distort and discredit China Africa relations with false arguments such as "China Threat Theory","Neo colonialism" and "resource plunder theory".In the context of the ever-changing world situation and the continuous development of China Africa cooperation,enhancing mutual trust between China and Africa and effectively coping with the strategic repression and public opinion attacks of Western discourse hegemony on China Africa cooperation in the field of international public opinion are important to maintain the stability of China Africa relations and enhance China’s global governance ability.China and Africa should strengthen media cooperation between China and Kenya,promote people to people exchanges between China and Kenya,enhance the awareness of enterprises in Kenya,strengthen the main responsibility of public opinion guidance,and improve the public opinion early warning and response mechanism to enhance China’s public opinion guidance ability in Kenya.
