A Translation Study On Business Texts From The Perspective Of Eco-translatology ——Based On The Translation Practice Of “terms And Conditions” Of Badger Meter

The present paper,taking the sales agreement of Badger Meter.Inc.as an example,intends to explore the translation strategies that can be applied to the translation of business texts from the perspective of Eco-translatology by analyzing the characteristics of the translated material.The Eco-translatology is rooted in Darwin’s theory of natural selection.It introduces the concept of “adaptation and selection” in nature into the translation process,and emphasizes the importance of the translator in the course of translation.In order to offer practical methods of translating,Eco-translatology puts forward the specific translation method,“three-dimensional transformation”,which suggests translators to analyze the original text from three dimensions: linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension.The business text is featured with a formal style and complex information.To develop sound solutions to such a translation project,the paper firstly uncovers the characteristics of the source text in terms of register,linguistic norms and information in the light of Eco-translatology.On the basis of the textual analysis,the paper puts forward six specific translation strategies,namely,translating trade terms directly and conforming to the language style of the terms in the light of language dimension,highlighting the cultural background of the terms and complying with Chinese business language norms in the light of cultural dimension,and revealing the invisible obligation terms and highlighting the information focus of the terms in the light of communicative dimension,so as to prove the guiding significance of Eco-translatology to the translation of business texts.
