Translation Strategies Of Political Texts:in The Light Of Eco-Translatology

As China has stronger economic power and enhanced international presence, people from other countries are eager to know China; at the same time, China hopes to gain recognition and respect internationally. Under such circumstances, how to promote China’s image becomes such an important issue. One aspect of promotion is political publicity, where the government introduces its governing ideas, state policies and political stand. In this process, translators of political texts serve the role of introducing China to uphold national interest and to establish a good image.The current researches on translation of political texts are mainly from the perspective of skopos theory, dynamic equivalence and cross-culture communication. The rising of eco-translatology provides a new angle to analyze translation of political texts. The thoery is systematic and translator-oriented. It does not struggle between literal or free translation, domestication or foreignization; instead it focuses on translators’adaptation and selection.Taking Xi Jinping:the Governance of China as an example, the dissertation gives an account of the macro-and micro-environment of the translation of the book, and points out that the environment is better than before. Then it evaluates the English version of the book from the perspective of multi-dimentional integration to explore laws of adaption and selection, and proposes translation strategies of political texts. The dissertation concludes:in order to persue high dimentional integration, translators should have a good understanding the environment of both original language and target one to determine their stand and attitude; translators should also take good use of "maintaining, coordinating, and reconstructing" strategies, with an emphasis on the last one when it comes to political texts.
