A Report On E-C Translation Of Inter-Ocean Hunting Tales （Chapter Ⅵ-Chapter Ⅹ）

This report,part of the translator’s postgraduate project,recapitulates and reflects on the translation process of Inter-Ocean Hunting Tales（chapter six to ten）.The book,a collection of the author Edgar Fritz Randolph’s narratives of his gripping hunting experiences and his reflections on this controversial sport,weaves features of both informative and expressive texts together.The translation project is of research value as the book touches on environmental evolvement and animal protection development in North American around the 20 th century,and of practical significance in clarifying the controversies of hunting sports.It is also of literary value in terms of construing scenery description in English.The report unfolds based on the “Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation（CEA）” Framework by Li Changshuan and Lynette Xiaojing Shi.The method of case study is used to analyze translation problems pertinent to the three aspects,and respective translation methods targeting at the three aspects are demonstrated in specific examples.The comprehension part involves comprehending the source text with the help of background knowledge,the Internet and the context;the expression part discusses the methods of avoiding Europeanized Chinese,ensuring coherence and reproducing the style of the source text;and the last part focuses on adaptations that intend to deliver better reader experience and bridge Western-Chinese cultural gaps.The report ends with findings of the translation project and corresponding solutions to existing shortcomings.Through analysis the translator becomes more aware of the inseparable relations of the three aspects: an in-depth comprehension of the source text builds solid ground for expression and adaptation,and the quality of expression and adaptation reflects the level of comprehension.The report summarizes the methods used in the translation of Inter-Ocean Hunting Tales（chapter six to ten）,hoping to draw lessons for avoiding similar translation mistakes in the future and shed some light on literary translation from the perspective of compression,expression and adaptation.
