Abstract/Summary:
In recent years, the academic exchanges between China and many countries have been more and more pervasive and popular. Therefore, for the sake of supplying more opportunities for students to connect with the world,Jilin University has been inviting famous experts at home and abroad to give lectures to the students. This paper on simultaneous interpreting is the 10 th Overseas Quality Lecture of International Demonstration Base under the theme "Hegel on Freedom and Recognition" was hosted by the College of Philosophy and Sociology of Jilin University. This academic lecture was held online, which was convenient for the audience to attend.Nevertheless,it is difficult for the target audience, freshmen, who have a poor command of English,to understand the content completely and accurately,so simultaneous interpretation was called for to assure the comprehension of the lecture. The author was invited by the freshmen counselor to interpret this lecture.Under the guidance of Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory, this paper analyzes the interpreting and explores solutions to corresponding interpreting problems. And the purpose of this paper is to find solutions to interpreting problems by analyzing the three characteristics of the academic lecture under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory. The three characteristics are: a multiplicity of terminologies,a multitude of long and difficult sentences, and a high density of information. These three characteristics also cause some problems in interpreting. In order to solve the problem of misinterpreting, the author puts forward the solution of improving pre-interpreting preparation. The logical confusion is solved by restructuring, and syntactic linearity is adopted to avoid information loss. The author hopes that the problems and solutions to this interpreting practice can provide a reference for future interpreting activities and other interpreters.
