Li Yong’s Running Script Into The Stele:from The Recording Function To The Commemorative Function

The running hand was born in daily writing.Originally,it was a kind of record writing.In the Western Jin Dynasty,it was used as a special style to copy documents.Later,it was also used in the correspondence of letters.However,in the Tang Dynasty,it joined the ranks of calligraphy steles as a kind of commemorative writing,and its originator was Emperor Tang Taizong.However,comparing the inscriptions "Jinci inscription" and "Wenquan inscription" with the copybook “liangdu note”,it is not difficult to see that Taizong’s inscriptions and inscriptions actually adopt the same writing style,that is,the writing style of Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi.Although Taizong was the first calligrapher to use running script stele,it was obvious that he did not find a way of writing that matched the material and shape of the stele.Li Yong is the calligrapher who combines the running script with the inscriptions of temples.He changed the running script boldly,opened up the commemorative function of running script,and finally made him a representative of the running script tablet.Through a detailed comparison of the relationship between Li Yong’s running script inscriptions and the same characters in “shengjiaoxu”（From Huairen’s collection of Wang Xizhi’s Calligraphy）,this paper attempts to prove that he is based on“shengjiaoxu”,tracing back to the ancient Central Plains,and making corresponding adjustments to his brushwork,lettering and artistic composition,so that the running script completes the expansion and transformation from recording function to commemorative function..So his running script with stele style was born,then the running hand have “came into” the stele.Li Yong’s running hand didn’t come into the monument overnight,It was only after the exploration from the early Ye Youdao stele to the middle Li Sixun stele and then to the later Lushan Temple stele that it was completed,later generations basically followed the pattern formed by Li Yong.
