Li Yong's inscribing into the tablet in Chinese running script is a milestone in the history of the Chinese calligraphy.Before the Tang Dynasty the calligraphy carrier of inscriptions was always regular script,more rarely Chinese running script inscribed into the tablet.Since the Tang Dynasty,the culture was enlightened and loose,and the acceptance of absorption of new things in this period developed acme,so it can be acceptable in this period that inscribing new font into the tablet in spite of the subversion of traditional style.Combined with the strong national strength,economic prosperity,and vigorous development of the whole society orderly and stably,the prosperous economy provided a reliable guarantee.Different with the emperors in Wei-Jin period,who banned the tablet inscription many times,the Tang Dynasty emperors encouraged the development of stone inscription,and Emperor Taizong of Tang inscribed the calligraphy art in Chinese running script-Jin temple inscription for the first time.All of these had a profound impact for Li Yong's inscription in Chinese running script.This paper enumerates Li Yong's masterpieces inscribed into the tablet in Chinese running script,and compares them with other inscription calligraphy arts.Li Yong learnt the calligraphy arts of Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi,finally brought forth the new through the old.In the environment that everybody admired two Wang.Li Yong sought new ways of writing,combined two Wang's calligraphy style and inscription in Wei-Jin period,added the font structure of Li calligraphy,and found the perfect fusion,finally Li became the best calligrapher at that time.The article also focuses on the brushwork,words and composition characteristics.Li Yong's calligraphy arts showed a vigorous beauty in brushwork,and based on the characteristic of loose top and tight bottom,not only increased the changes of body potential,but also enriched the aesthetic temperament and interest,that is refreshing.Obviously slant characteristic of low left and high right makes Li Yong's calligraphy arts vigorous,firm,elegant and passionate.These aspects compose Li Yong's calligraphy style consisting of forceful brushwork,peculiar words,vigorous and steady font.
