With the continuous development of education in China,the society pays more and more attention to education evaluation.Compared with the early summative evaluation method,formative evaluation has become the focus of domestic and foreign scholars.In formative evaluation,portfolio evaluation is an effective evaluation method.At present,the research achievements of portfolio evaluation method are abundant abroad,but relatively few in China.Therefore,the translation of foreign studies in this field is helpful for domestic students’ learning and self-development,and can provide theoretical and practical reference for English-Chinese translation of educational evaluation research.This translation practice is excerpted from Portfolios for Student Growth.The selected part is the middle school students’ portfolio guide and writing template,which mainly expounds the writing requirements and forms of each part of the middle school students’ growth portfolio,describes the responsibilities of teachers and students in the portfolio process,and answers the portfolio-related questions.This translation practice includes four chapters.The first chapter discusses the background and significance of translating Portfolios for Student Growth.The second chapter describes the preparation before translation,understanding and expression in translation,analysis of difficulties,and post-translation proofreading of Portfolios for Student Growth.The preparation before translation mainly includes the translator’s learning and understanding of portfolio evaluation background knowledge,translation tools and Functional Equivalence theory.During-translation includes translating the text and solving the difficulties in the process of translation.Post-translation proofreading includes proofreading by the translator herself and proofreading by others to improve the quality of translation.The third chapter makes a case study of the problems encountered in the translation of Portfolios for Student Growth from three aspects: vocabulary,syntax and discourse.In the process of translation,the translator analyzes the technical terms,attributive clauses,passive sentences and long and difficult sentences,and summarizes the translation methods.The fourth chapter summarizes the findings and limitations of translating the Portfolios for Student Growth.Although this translation practice has made efforts in terms of vocabulary and syntax,due to the lack of text translation practices about education evaluation,the translator still needs to improve the coherence of texts.In the future,the translator will accumulate more translation practice experience,improve the translation level,and strive to contribute to the text translation in educational evaluation,especially in portfolio evaluation.
