A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Practice Of Dialogue In You Let Me Go Under The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

With the development of globalization,economic prosperity and technological progress,the exchanges between countries are becoming more frequent than before.Meanwhile,the integration and collision between cultures are also deepening,which makes translation task more meaningful.The translated text of this task is an English novel entitled You Let Me Go,written by Eliza Graham.The novel starts from the point of view of the protagonist Rozenn’s granddaughter Moran,who tells the story of her grandmother Rozenn leaving her inheritance to another granddaughter,Gwen,to the exclusion of her favorite granddaughter Moran.This translation practice report is guided by translation functional equivalence theory from an American linguist called Eugene Nida.During the translation process,the translator uses foreignization and domestication translation skills,trying to make the source language and the target language achieve partial functional equivalence,in order to reduce the cultural loss after translation.Literal translation and free translation are used to make the translation conform to the expression habits of the target language based on the similarities and differences between the two language structures.In addition,the translator uses amplification and omission translation skills,aiming to make the translation conform to the grammar,language form of target language,aiming to make the translation conform to the original text in cultural background and vocabulary.Trying to make the translation readers feel more the same as the original text readers.This report has five parts.The first part is the introduction,which gives a brief introduction to the overall situation of the translation task;the second part mainly introduces the relevant situation of the translation task,and the features and difficulties during translation;the third part is the process of translation tasks;the fourth part is translation theory and case analysis,including functional equivalence theory,translation strategy and case analysis;The fifth part is the summary of the translation task,which mainly including the problems encountered in the translation,the experience and enlightenment gained in the translation process,etc.
