| The 2020 World Conference on VR Industry was held in Nanchang from October 19 to 21,2020.It was a grand event in VR(Virtual Reality)industry hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of Jiangxi province.Due to the impact of the pandemic,the entire conference was held in the form of summit online,a combination of both online and offline.This report is based on the simulated simultaneous interpreting of the Health-care Sub-forum.In this project,the reporter encountered three major difficulties: insufficient knowledge of VR and healthcare industries and related terminology;failure in interpreting Chinese culture-loaded expressions;difficulties in interpreting long sentences,including information redundancy and unclear logic of the target language.Based on the comprehensive analysis of the transcripts and differences between Chinese and English languages,the reporter proposed corresponding solutions to these problems under the guidance of related theory: interpreters should establish a glossary and acquire professional knowledge in VR and healthcare industries,enhance cross-cultural awareness and adopt proper interpreting skills to cope with cultural vacancy and convey the meaning of the long sentences through omitting redundant information and information reorganization.Based on thorough analysis of first-hand data,this report attempts to provide assistance and reference for interpreters especially who engage in C-E simultaneous interpretation in VR and healthcare industries. |
