Language and Gender(2nd Edition)is written by British scholar Mary Talbot.This book is published by Polity Press with 12 chapters.There are 7657 English words in Chapter 11,which is chosen as the translation material,and they are translated into 15610 Chinese characters.This chapter provides an overview of the research on language and gender in the normalization of heterosexuality and homosexuality.After selecting the translation materials,it has gone through the steps of pretranslation preparation,translation and post-translation editing,and finally the practical task is completed.This translation practice,which lasted about a year and five months,was reviewed four times,starting in June 2019 and ending in November 2020.The translation shifts theory is applied in translation.The translation shifts theory includes two dimensions: level shifts and category shifts.And there are four levels in category shifts,which include structure shifts,class shifts,unit shifts and intra-system shifts.The flexible application of these translation strategies makes the translation more in line with the expression habit of Chinese,improves the quality of translation,ensures that the translation goes smoothly,and makes it easier for readers to the chapter.The translation practice has fully proved that in level shifts,English grammar phenomenon needs to be realized by Chinese characters;in category shifts,the shifts are at the same language level;in structure shifts,when some attributives,adverbials and appositives are translated into Chinese,the sentence structure needs to be changed to conform to the language norms of Chinese;in class shifts,shifting some English verbs,nouns,adjectives,prepositions into other parts of speech can reflect the linguistic features of Chinese;in unit shifts,some sentences or phrases in English are shifted into vocabulary of Chinese,which conforms to the reading habits and the understanding needs of readers;in intra-system shifts,the same words are translated into different meanings in different contexts,which makes the content more reasonable.Figure 0;Table 0;Reference 30...
