| National English Curriculum Standards for Common High School(NECSCSHS)(2017)points out that the language skills high school students should master include listening,speaking,reading,viewing and writing,and puts forward clear requirements for each skill.Writing teaching is an essential part of English teaching in senior high school,which aims to train students’ ability to use language comprehensively and to promote the development of students’ core competence of English discipline.However,due to the limited class time and heavy teaching tasks,senior high school English teachers tend to emphasize input rather than output,which causes the problem of separation between learning and using.In view of the problems in the writing teaching of senior high schools,this study takes46 students from a senior high school in Suzhou as research subjects.Using the method of action research and taking “Production-oriented Approach”(POA)as the theoretical basis,this thesis tries to explore three questions: firstly,what problems should be highly valued and immediately solved in the application of POA in senior high school? secondly,how should the teachers of English adopt POA to design and implement high school English writing activities through action research? thirdly,what are the effects of POA on senior high school students’ English writing ability? To what extent? This study mainly includes the following parts: firstly,explore the current situation of high school English writing teaching through questionnaire;secondly,discuss with professors and teachers,after looking up books and literature,to propose the adoption of POA in writing teaching;thirdly,make action plans,conduct the first round of action and modify the action plan through constant reflection;finally,conduct the second round of action,collect and analyze data.The major findings are as the following:First,the problems should be highly valued and immediately solved in the application of POA in senior high school involve several aspects.In the motivating stage,the selection of input materials should not only take into account the requirements of the new curriculum standard for students,but also meets the actual needs of students.In the enabling stage,teachers should give students opportunity to use the language.Students take turns as group event organizers,speakers and recorders to ensure that all of them can benefit a lot.In the assessing stage,teachers should develop a more detailed self-assessment form and clearly mark each score.Teachers can try to evaluate students’ compositions in front of the whole class to increase communication chances.Second,the results have shown that POA is a practical theory to improve high school students’ English writing ability,and students have made great improvement in the content,language and structure of their compositions.Third,the study proposes specific procedures of implementing POA in high school English writing class,including preparing,motivating,enabling and assessing,which provides new ideas for high school English writing teaching. |
