Writing is a process of expressing thoughts in written language,which is particularly important in the current English teaching.Traditional English teaching classes focus on grammar and reading teaching while ignoring writing teaching.At present,Chinese Senior High School students are weak in English writing and language learning cannot be applied to practical communication.In order to solve the problem of "separation of learning and application" in China,Wen Qiufang proposed the Production-Oriented Approach.Through analyzing the relevant literature at home and abroad,the study finds that Production-Oriented Approach to high English writing stays at the theoretical level,while the empirical research on high school English writing is rare.Taking the "Production-Oriented Approach" as the theoretical guidance,the study carries out a 14-week English writing experiment in Class A(5)of a senior high school in Suzhou,aiming to cultivate the interest in English writing and improve the students’ English writing ability.The study discusses the following two questions:(1)Can the Production-Oriented Approach cultivate high school students’ interest in writing?(2)What’s the impact of Production-Oriented Approach on the English writing ability of high school students?The study includes three phases.In the first stage,questionnaires,interviews and English questions are used to know about the students’ current writing ability,feelings and attitudes towards English writing.In the second stage,according to the problems found in the first stage,the author applies Production-Oriented Approach to English writing teaching and analyzes the teaching effect and existing problems based on interviews in this stage.In the third stage,the author reflects and improves the research program to continue using the Production-Oriented Approach to the writing classroom.This study analyzes the data collected after each stage quantitatively and qualitatively.The results of the study show that:(1)Production-Oriented Approach can stimulate students’ interest in English writing.Students change their attitude towards English writing and master certain writing methods and skills.Students have a high recognition of the Production-Oriented Approach.Through three interviews with students,the results show that students have a positive view on the Production-Oriented Approach,and they hope to take more writing classes in the future.(2)Production-Oriented Approach can improve students’ writing ability.The average scores of students’ writing increases from 11.26 to 14.12,and the writing is improved in vocabulary,grammar,content and structure.This study discusses the application of Production-Oriented Approach to senior high school English writing teaching.However,due to the few research objects and the author’s insufficient teaching experience,the influence of Production-Oriented Approach on students’ writing ability and interest needs to be further explored in the future teaching practice.
