| Writing has always been a significant bottleneck for non-native English learners because writing examines the learner’s ability to use the language comprehensively, involving many aspects such as words, phrases, sentence structures and grammar,as well as the role of native language transfer. In the context of the new curriculum reform, the Ministry of Education of China has put forward higher requirements for the subject of English. In the writing part, the new standard requires higher comprehensive application of English language skills for students at the compulsory level, and the new standard of English writing no longer requires only patterned writing but must express their own opinions and have discursive thinking. As an English teacher for many years,I found from my teaching practice that in recent years, the English teaching level of a middle school in Ganzhou City has been gradually increasing, but the students’ writing performance is not satisfactory. The "Production-oriented Approach" is a foreign language teaching theory built by Wen Qiufang,a Chinese scholar,on the basis of theories of second language acquisition at home and abroad and the actual situation in China, aiming to solve the problem of "separation of learning and use" in English education in China. This study attempts to introduce the output-oriented approach to English writing teaching in junior high school in order to help students improve their writing ability and cultivate their interest in writing.Specifically, this study attempts to explore the following issues.(1)What is the effect of the writing teaching model based on the production-oriented approach on junior high school students’ interest in writing?(2)What is the effect of the writing teaching model based on the production-oriented approach on junior high school students’ writing ability? In this study,49 students in a junior high school class in Ganzhou City were used as the subjects. The researcher followed the steps of "identifying problems," "developing an action plan," "implementing the action plan," and "reflecting on the evaluation." Two rounds of action research were conducted over a period of 12 weeks. The results of the study showed that the production-oriented approach was effective in improving first-year students’ English writing ability, mainly in terms of rich content, accurate language, and logical structure, and that the production-oriented approach made students show more enthusiasm in the classroom participation and increased their interest in English writing. |
