| As one of the ways to express students’ thoughts and reflect their language ability,English writing has always been the focus of language learners.Writing teaching also takes a pivotal position in English teaching.After publishing "The New English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School(2017 Edition)",the core literacy of English subjects has been continuously mentioned,whose level can be reflected by writing ability.But nowadays,high school students in our country are not very interested in writing,and their writing ability is poor,so they can’t express their thoughts in English fluently.In response to the "separation of learning and use" in English learning in China,Professor Wen and his team created Production-Oriented Approach.In view of this,this action research applies the POA to high school English writing classes,and studies on first-year students in a high school in Wuhu.The main research questions are as follows:(1)Can POA improve students’ English writing ability?(2)Can POA bring students a positive writing experience?This action research consisted of three periods.The first period used questionnaires,interviews,and time-limited tests to investigate students’ writing skills and attitudes towards writing before the action research.The second period carefully designed the research plan and conducted two English writing class using POA.At the end of this period,the author interviewed students to learn the effects and the problems that occurred.The third period adjusted the research plan,and continued to use POA for English writing class.This research analyzed the qualitative data and quantitative data to solve the research questions.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)POA can improve students’ writing skills.The average score of students’ composition has increased from 8.96 to 12.84.The quality of composition text has been improved in all dimensions(content,structure,vocabulary richness,average sentence length,etc.).(2)POA can bring positive emotional experience to students.The scores of the students’ writing attitude,writing skills and self-evaluation dimension questionnaire all improved.Students’ interest in writing increased,and writing skills improved.(3)Students’ recognition of Production-Oriented Approach has increased.Through three interviews with students,it is found that students affirm the role of POA and are willing to use POA to improve their writing skills.The research has enlightened the current high school English writing teaching.Teachers need to learn new ideas constantly,diversify teaching methods,enrich teaching models for high school English writing teaching.This action research has generally achieved the expected results,but it also has limitations such as small research scope,short research period,and insufficient teacher experience.Therefore,the long-term impact of POA on students’ writing ability requires long-term exploration by more researchers. |
