This translation practice comes from English into Chinese,and the original text of the translation practice comes from the seventh chapter and the eighth chapter of And Then They Stopped Talking To Me written by Judith Warner,the author of the New York Times best sellers in the United States.It main talks about teenagers’ mental health and parent-child relationship.The source text belongs to informative text,which contains many professional terms about psychiatry and psychology,concise language,rigorous grammar and compact sentence structure.The reason why the translator choose this book as my source text is through translating the selected contexts,the translator can improve my translation competence and use the theory she has learned.Secondly,as an prospective high-school teacher,the translator can learn a numerous of examples about teenagers’ mental health.Thirdly,the translator believe the book can enlighten more and more parents,educators as well as the whole society so that they can retrospect their wrong parenting methods and create a better atmosphere for the growth of teenagers.Thirdly,the key and difficult points about the translation project are to deal with the complex sentences as well as translation of the title,online new phrases and professional nouns.Based on the style and features of the original text,guided by Vermeer’s Skopos theory,the translator has applied communicative translation and amplification,omission,the changes of the part of speech and reinventing sentence structure as well as free translation to reproduce the style of the original text and ensure smooth and natural of the target text.Through the translation,the translator has got a lot of findings.Firstly,according to Lawrence Venuti,who has pointed that there are no absolute boundaries between modernization and foreignization,so we need to combine this two translation strategy reasonably so that the target text can be reproduced the style of the original text.Secondly,faced with some compound sentences,the translator will use communicative translation strategies proposed by Peter Newmark,who said“The communicative translation is to make the effect of the translation to the target language reader equal to that of the original text to the readers of source language”(1981/1988:22).Under the guidance of Vermeer’s Skopos theory.The translator should translate the content of the original text.Lastly,when translating professional nouns and online new words,translators should refer to some dictionaries and combine the translation with the background information of the original text.Lastly,there are still many deficencies in this translation practice.As a undergraduate student of MTI,the translator is lack of practical experience,therefore there are some misunderstanding of the translation.The readability of the target text needs to be improved.
