As a representative writer of "Post-70s",Xu Zechen has created a large number of fictions with both high-quality and graceful with sincere, serious, simpler and low profile writing attitude and rich and varied writing art.Xu Zechen has won many honors for his outstanding achievements in creation, and has gradually gained more readers’ love and close attention from the academic circles.Generally speaking, most of the existing studies focus on the thought content and artfulness of Xu Zechen’s fictions, but it is rare to systematically analyze his works from the perspective of novel Imagery. In Xu Zechen’s fictions, there are many recurring natural and cultural landscapes, such as canals, flower streets, stone piers or sandstorms. These scenes or images have formed an imagery system with rich meanings. These imageries are of unique significance to understand the connotation of his fictions and appreciate the narrative art of his fictions.Starting from the imagery of the fiction, this paper systematically combs, refines and interprets the imagery of Xu Zechen’s novels by means of close reading, which can further explore the deep meaning and aesthetic value of Xu Zechen’s novels,as well as the psychological structure and emotional structure of Xu Zechen’s novels. The first chapter of this paper mainly analyzes the overall significance of the imagery of "canal" in Xu Zechen’s fictions from the following aspects: the formation of the imagery of "canal","canal" as a geographical space and as a historical and cultural imagination space. The second chapter specifically discusses the imageries in Xu Zechen’s "hometown series" fictions, focusing on the interpretation of "Flower Street","stone wharf","fool","itch","night train","oblique church" and "Bible".This series of imageries imply the psychological impact of teenagers in the process of growing up and the spiritual pursuit of adults for freedom, loneliness and self-redemption,thus establishing the two themes of "growth" and "self-salvation" in Xu Zechen’s fictions. The third chapter mainly analyzes the imagery in Xu Zechen’s fictions of "jingpiao series".Starting from the natural imageries such as "haze","sandstorm","Snow" and the animal imageries such as "ant","pigeon" and "monkey",it discusses Xu Zechen’s concern for the existence of reality and modernity. On the basis of combing and interpreting the imageries in Xu Zechen’s fictions, the fourth chapter tries to further grasp the poetic construction and deep psychological structure of the images in Xu Zechen’s novels from his personal growth experience and the change of life experience from the countryside to the city.On the whole,Xu Zechen’s fiction starts from the "canal" and constructs a complex and stereoscopic imagery world under the guidance of the "canal" imagery, which implies the continuous accumulation and evolution of the writer’s creative experience and aesthetic experience, and also represents the gradually enriched and deepened interactive relationship between the Post-70 s writers’ subjective experience and the overall process of social culture.
