| Since the advent of the WeChat official account,the news industry tailored to the platform has developed rapidly.New media news,with WeChat news posts being the typical form,has received more and more attention.Most major media set up Weibo and WeChat accounts to release news.Given its different characteristics,especially the changes in the constituent elements of news value and their significance,it is essential to dig deep into new media news.On the other hand,studies about news transediting in the context of new media are still limited.Even fewer focus on one specific industry.Nevertheless,domestic media often look to the advanced western ones to catch up with the industry trends.Therefore,studying English-Chinese media news transediting is becoming increasingly significant.For those reasons,this report is based on the author’s news transediting about the media industry in the column “Overseas Perspectives” of the WeChat official account “Media Opinions”,analyzing both successful and failed cases.Referring to the core ideas of the Translation Variation Theory,this report mainly discusses news transediting’s features,strategies,and methods influenced by the specific operating organizations,medium,and target audience.Processes touched on include topic selection,as well as headline,lead,and main body transediting.Through the project,the author believes that in news transediting,news value and readers’ preferences are two core elements as proposed by the Translation Variation Theory.In keeping with that,different methods are employed in different parts of a news post to fulfill their specific functions.For both the headline and the lead,rewriting is the major method,while the news’ s main body often adopts four approaches-addition,reduction,narration,and combination.Implications from this project are that transeditors need to enhance their news literacy and apply approaches to achieve the best effects in terms of both translation and communication. |
