After the outbreak of Covid-19,lockdown measures were taken one after another,leading to changes in many business forms.As a result,remote interpreting has been taking a bigger part in interpreting services.In this new normal,interpreters are confronted with new challenges in their interpreting tasks.In this report,the writer explores the competence portfolio interpreters should have for remote interpreting tasks based on her performance in a remote interpreting task in August 2020.During the two-day task,her main job was to provide liaison interpreting and consecutive interpreting service for an American importer and exporter of medical devices during the 2020(Guangdong)International COVID-19 Pandemic Prevention Supplies Sourcing Fair.Based on her descriptions and analysis of the features of the interpreting setting and the task itself,it was found that apart from linguistic competence,extra-linguistic competence and interpreting skills competence,psycho-physiological competence and professional qualities are of great significance to a good performance in remote interpreting tasks.
