A Report On Liaison Interpreting From The Perspective Of Interpreter Competence

This report is based on the author’s experience of interpreting for Jinan Qidaocheng Intelligent Technology Co.,Ltd.from October 18th to 24th,2018.She worked in three different cities within seven days.Her main task was interpreting at the business negotiation meetings,enterprises,scenic spots and receptions.Although she encountered many challenges,such as stressful preparation,strong accents of the foreign speakers,diversified environments,tight schedules,and criticism from the contact person,the author managed to overcome these difficulties and accomplished the tasks smoothly.She received positive feedback from the sponsor,Chinese and foreign speakers for her professional interpreting and responsible attitude.The theoretical basis of this report is the concept of interpreter competence.Based on her interpreting experience,the author conducts a case analysis to reflect on the intelligence factors and non-intelligence factors that were involved in the interpreting tasks,and provides suggestions for the cultivation of interpreter competence.The author reflects on her overall performance,as well as the importance of interpreter competence.The author hopes that this report will help more interpreters to realize the importance of cultivating interpreter competence in carrying out interpreting tasks.Apart from developing language proficiency,accumulating extra-linguistic knowledge and acquiring interpreting strategies and skills,interpreters and MTI students majoring in interpreting also need to enhance their psychological qualities,physical qualities and professional qualities.
