The Study Of Boundary Writing In Elena Ferrante’s "Naples Tetralogy" | | Posted on:2022-06-07 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:J Ai | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2505306521467384 | Subject:Comparative Literature and World Literature | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | Elena Ferrante is one of the most personal writers in contemporary Italian literature.Her most influential works,the "Naples Tetralogy" have repeatedly presented and analyzed the border issue.This paper argues that the concern on the border issue is the important signal of Ferrante’s fiction.This paper takes Ferrante’s novels "Naples Tetralogy" as the object of study,taking boundary theory as the starting point,adopting a deep reading of the text,and focuses on class intergeneration,gender,life and death boundaries,and Ferrante’s "dissolving margins" writing strategy.The paper is divided into four chapters.Chapter one starts from the perspective of intergenerational borders of classes,and argues that the "Naples Tetralogy" reflects the demise and struggle of the poor in the process of crossing the intergenerational borders of classes,in the face of such obstacles as the dichotomy between rich and poor and the blurred borders between generations.Ferrante sees that behind the class boundary is the exploitation and suppression of the common people by ideology and power discourse.Behind the revelation of a series of problems brought about by the intergenerational boundary against the class is Ferrante’s vision of the possibility of dissolving the intergenerational boundary between classes and realizing the reconstruction of the subject’s identity.Chapter two starts from the perspective of gender boundaries.This chapter focuses on the confusion and survival situation of groups of women and homosexuals,which are marginalized in the gender order and constantly regulated,tamed and even lose their subjectivity under the patriarchal discourse,as well as their struggle and resistance under the dilemma of such an inescapable gender boundary.By focusing on them,Ferrante attempts to break the traditional gender hierarchical order,so as to reconstruct a harmonious and inclusive world.Chapter three starts from the perspective of the border between life and death.Ferrante believes that there is an unresolved state of existence between life and death-disappearance.By writing about the state of disappearance,Ferrante conveys her thoughts on human nature,her questioning of fate,and her philosophical thoughts on the value of life.In addition,Ferrante also focuses on the inevitable encounter between life and death.The "Naples Tetralogy" presents the state of existence of human beings in the face of natural calamities and social violence,and reveals the real state of existence between life and death.It embodies the author’s profound thinking about the value of human life.Chapter four begins with Ferrante’s writing strategy.It reveals the formal dissolution of boundaries in the "Naples Tetralogy" in three aspects: the dissolution of fiction and reality,the intermingling of reality and magic,and the blending of dialect and Italian.,Ferrante avoids the techniques commonly used in popular literature and consciously dissolves the narrative boundary of traditional novels,so as to find a new way to reveal the truth of the world. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Naples Tetralogy, Border writing, Class intergeneration, Gender, Life and death, Narrate | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
