There are two features in Zhu Xiang' s poems: the seeking for life and the call for death. This couple of psychological recognitions which seem to contradict each other constitutes the unique phenomenon of "the duet of life and death" (i. e. the two extreme ways of life and death). From the theorical explanation,. this cultural phenomenon is associated.with the grow and recede of human instincts for life and death in the poet' s mind, consciously as well subconsciously. The significant expression of death and the faint hide of life , in the psychological sense, mostly result from the restraints and oppressions to Zhu' s life by that "distressing society" , which made the poet discontented with the realistic life. In the growing course of death psychology, the poet has gone through from the recognition of death , to the intimination of death and finally the eager for death, from which we can see the poet had "died" before he actually passed away. The poetry is always full of philosophy, thus, Zhu Xiang' s feelings and experience about life philosophy and death philosophy existing in his poems, and at the same time, influence the rivals betweem the life and death instincts in the poet' s mind. Zhu Xiang believes that the dissatisfaction of life finds its voice in the lackof love and the destroy of life by the " distressing society",while the nature and the poetry can only give the unhappy life confort rather than the heaven of life without hardships. He .also believes that the life' s happiness exists in the death, but not on the earth, for death can relieve and even praise life from the restraint of earthly sufferings, and what extinguishes in death is just our natural body, not our spirit. So, the abundant descriptions of life and death in Zhu Xiang' s works show the fact that there are aesthetics on both life and death. In his works, the aesthetic spirit, feeling and art prove the existence of death as beauty. Moreover, in the course of his aesthetics of death, he views that death can overcome the limitation of earth and enable life to realize its ultimate, true meaning. At the same time, Zhu' s aesthetic altitude towords "death" without any materal gain gives death the tranguil aesthetic style.
