Elena Ferrante,an anonymous writer,is one of the most popular writers in the Italian literary world in recent years. She published a series of novels named “The Naples Tetralogy” between 2011 and 2014,which tells a friendship story of Elena and Lila for more than half a century, narrating the history of Italy in the second half of the 20 th century. After the investigation of the literature related to the novels, the present study about them is mainly involved in the true identity of Elena Ferrante,as well as the obvious themes of the novels, such as “Friendship,Feminism, and Bildungsroman”,etc. However, many topics of the novels needed to be further researched and discussed. The novels tell the interaction of close friends among the protagonist Elena,Lila and Nino as well as the social background in Italy at that time, while representing the female living space to the reader, and revealing the female thinking and fighting for her sake.In the perspective of “Other”,this dissertation takes the narrative style of Ferrant's unique“Novel in Novel” and the identity construction of Elena's “Writer” as the research objective, exploring Lila and Nino's role as the “Other”,and the guiding function of certain time and society in the process of Elena's self-quest and construction of cultural identity. These factors above are intertwined to make Elena construct her own identity of a writer, thus forming a special cognitive style and narrative mode, and producing the most profound and complex image in her works.
