Reconstruction Of Coherence In The Chinese Translation Of English Confucianism Texts

Based on the analysis of the Chinese translation practice of the English monograph Confucian Property and Ritual Learning: A Philosophical Interpretation(Chapters 1 and 2),this translation practice report mainly investigates coherence problems and summarizes the translation methods and techniques for reconstructing the coherence of academic texts.This book is an academic text,in which its formal words,complex sentence structure and clear logic ensure the coherence of the text in grammar,semantics and logic.However,due to the differences between English and Chinese in terms of logic relation,cultural background and thinking mode,the reconstruction of coherence becomes a difficult task in this translation practice.After analyzing the text,the translator explores how to reconstruct coherence from three aspects: logical coherence,grammatical coherence and semantic coherence.In regard to logical coherence,the report focuses on how to identify and convey causal,transitive and conditional relations implied in the source text to realize the logical coherence of the target text;in regard to grammatical coherence,the report mainly reconstructs it from three types:substitution,correspondence and articulation;in regard to semantic coherence,the report puts emphasis on inter-word coherence and inter-sentence coherence to realize the semantic coherence of the target text.Aiming at solving different coherence problems,the translator offers feasible translation methods and techniques with specific cases to reconstruct the coherence of the discourse.This report helps to understand and learn the translation methods and techniques for the coherence of academic texts.It is hoped that some references can be provided for academic translation and the writing of related reports in the future.
