An E-C Translation Report On Early Mongol Rule In Thirteenth-century Iran (Chapter 6)

This is an English-Chinese translation report on Early Mongol Rule in Thirteenth-century Iran(Chapter 6).This book written by George Lane introduces the influence of Mongol rule on Iran and some new turns in the Persian Renaissance.And the selected text chiefly depicts the life of Juwaynīs,their influences on politics and culture of the Ilkhanate,as well as their contributions to Persian Renaissance.There are many difficulties in the process of translating.At the lexical level,the translation difficulties mainly include translating names and places in the period of the Mongol Empire,words with ethnic characteristics and polysemous nouns.At the syntactic level,the difficulties involve translating long sentences,attributive clauses and appositive clauses.At the same time,the translator also took some corresponding methods and techniques to solve the difficulties in the translating process.At the lexical level,transliteration,annotation and choosing the word meanings are adopted for translating names and places in the period of the Mongol Empire,words with ethnic characteristics and polysemous nouns.At the syntactic level,division,restructuring and linear translation are adopted for translating long sentences,attributive clauses and appositive clauses.Through this translation practice,the translator has improved her ability to comprehend the English text and to express it in Chinese,and mastered some translation methods and techniques during the process of translating,which can guide the future translation practice.
