| This is an English-Chinese translation report.The source text is Women in Mongol Iran: The Khatuns,1206–1335,which was published in 2017 and written by Bruno De Nicola.This book introduces the issue of female regency before the formation of the unified empire of Mongol,and the changes of women’s political,economic and religious status in the central dynasty of Ilkhanate as well as its local affiliated countries.This translation report selects Chapter Three of the source text,which is mainly about the evolution of women’s political status in Iran.The source text of the selected chapter is about 13000 words,and the total translation is about20000 Chinese characters.This translation report firstly introduces the background,significance of the translation project and the structure of the translation report.Secondly,the author of the book and the analysis of the source text are elaborated at length.Then the translator’s entire translation process are described in detail.Next,the corresponding translation methods for the difficulties encountered are analyzed with specific examples.In the process of translating,the difficulties encountered at the lexical level chiefly focus on translating proper nouns about Mongol,parts of speech and words’ meaning vacancies.At the syntactic level,the difficulties primarily concentrate on long sentences and attributive clauses.The difficulties encountered at the textual level is mainly how to deal with the problem of cohesion in translation.In view of the difficulties existing in the source text,the translator chooses different translation methods.For the difficulties above,the translator shows following methods:(1)annotation,paraphrase and conversion at the lexical level;(2)division,reversion and reconstruction at the syntactic level;(3)amplification and repetition at the textual level.Through translating Chapter Three of Women in Mongol Iran: The Khatuns,1206–1335,the translator’s English-Chinese translation ability has been improved.In addition,the translation of this book not only helps target readers to have an in-depth understanding on Mongolian history,but also can be beneficial for other translators who translate Mongolian historical texts. |
