| This is an English-Chinese translation report.The source text of the translation practice is Women in Mongol Iran: The Khatuns,1206—1335(Chapter 2)written by Bruno de Nicola,a researcher of Middle East Studies at the University of St.Andrews in the United Kingdom.Published in 2017,this book mainly studies the history of women in the Mongol Empire and their role in the politics,economy and religion of medieval Iran.There is no Chinese translation version of this book at present.In chapter two,the author examines female rule in the Mongol Empire.Women in Mongol Iran: The Khatuns,1206—1335 is an academic monograph on Mongolian history,which is relatively difficult to translate.In this translation report,the translator briefly introduces the background of the translation practice,the significance of the translation practice and the structure of the report.Then the translator introduces the source text author,analyzes the text type and characteristics of the selected text,and briefly describes the process of translation practice.The difficulty in the translation process lies in three aspects: a large number of proper nouns,long and complex sentence structures,and how to deal with the cohesion in translation.In view of the above difficulties,the translator needs to be flexible in the use of translation rules and methods.At the lexical level,footnotes and in-text annotations can be used to explain the proper nouns and extension of word meaning and conversion of part of speech can be used to get the most accurate translation.At the syntactic level,amplification and omission,reconstruction and reversing are flexible methods to optimize the language structure and improve the readability of the translation.At the textual level,ellipsis and repetition are adopted to make the translation more cohesive,fluent and accurate.In this translation practice,the translator finds that a qualified and competent translator must not only master translation methods and skills,but also have an adequate command of the two languages.Finally,the translator hopes that this translation can provide some references for the target readers and other translators. |
