| At a Crossroads: Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean was compiled and published by the World Bank in 2017.The book consists of seven chapters,which analyzes the development process of higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean from the aspects of school running direction,management system and the flow of teachers and students.There is no Chinese version of the book now.Therefore,this translation is not only helpful to the clients’ research but provides reference for the relevant domestic Latin American cultural researchers as well.Guided by communicative translation theory,the author of the report successfully completes this translation practice and writes an English-Chinese translation practice report based on it.In the translation process,the author of the report makes a concrete analysis of the source text from three levels: lexis,syntax and text.There are many proper nouns,abstract nouns and abbreviations in the source text.Considering the official characteristics of the whole source text,the author of the report accurately expresses the meaning of vocabularies while ensuring the conciseness and formality of the target language.At the syntactic level,the author of the report flexibly adopts such translation methods as division,conversion and reorganization,so as to make smooth sentences without violating the objective facts of the source text and satisfy the reading habits and research requirements of the target language readers.In order to conform to the logic of the source text and highlight the information function of the language in the informative text,the author of the report pays attention to the cohesion and coherence of the text in the translation process,so as to objectively and accurately conveys the information to the target language readers.In this translation practice,with the help of communicative translation theory and translation methods,the author of the report makes the meaning of diversified vocabulary in the source text easy to understand,makes the long and difficult sentences and passive sentences concise and fluent,and makes the content of the source text logically conveyed,which deeply reflects the concept and culture of Latin America education.Then the clients make an objective evaluation of this translation practice,and they believe that this translation reaches the expected effect and has certain use value. |
