This is a report on the translation of The Art of the Bee: Shaping the Environment from Landscapes to Societies by Robert E.Page Jr.,of which Chapter4,The Social Contract,is the source text. The origin of society, social agreement, the evolution of altruism, and social benefits are the main content of the source text. After analyzing the source text as a scientific and technological text, this translation report uses Newmark’s communicative translation theory to divide the translation difficulties into three levels, that is,lexical level, syntactic level and discourse level, and applies translation methods such as omission and conversion at lexical level, sequence adjustment and voice changing at syntactic level and adding conjunctions at discourse level to solve the difficulties such as doubled words, parallelism structure and cohesion and coherence.
