The translation report is about the third chapter of The Origins of You: How Childhood Shapes Later Life,which was published on August 11,2020 by Harvard Publishing House.It is co-authorized by four scholars including Jay Belsky,Avshalom Caspi,Terrie Moffitt and Richie Poulton.Four authors show their opinions of childhood,adolescence and adulthood,and represent the influence of childhood self-control,ADHD,growing environment,family economic condition,day care,bullying and gene on adulthood health,wealth and success,which reveal the influence of childhood experiences on the future development to remind readers of the cultivation of children.There are 20 chapters in the original text,the third chapter of which focuses on the impact of childhood self-control on adulthood health and wealth.The translator analyzes the translation difficulties of the original text and the corresponding solutions in CEA framework by Professor Li Changshuan,including comprehension,expression and adaptation,so as to achieve the functional equivalence between source language and target language.This translation report begins with a brief introduction of the importance of education for national development and talents cultivation,which lead to the significance of childhood experience for the future development.And this on the other hand works as an introduction to the core idea of the original text,that is,childhood self-control plays an important role in adulthood development.And the linguistic style of the source text is analyzed to identify the whole style of the target text.Besides,the theoretical basis,Functional Equivalence,is briefly introduced to explain how the translator accomplish this project under its guidance.After all of these previous works,case analysis is undertaken on the basis of CEA framework proposed by Li Changshuan to present the translation-aided tools the translator employs,the specific translation process,and how the translator deals with those difficulties,so as to show that the translator is able to accomplish the translation no matter in parts of comprehension,expression or adaptation.Finally,the experiences and problems to be solved after finishing the translation project are described to reminds the translator of keeping learning and practicing.
