| This is a report on English-Chinese translation of English version of Siemens product manual for rolling mills(excerpt).Under the guidance of Eco-translatology,a translation theory put forward by Professor Hu Gengshen.The author analyzes the text characteristics of the Siemens product manual as a technical documentation,and seeks to solve the problems encountered in translating the Siemens product manual through comparative analysis.While the author takes the Siemens product manual as translation practice,he often meets the following problems--in language dimension,target readers can frequently find nonstandard tense expressions and noun forms in target text,overuse of weak-tone verbs and passive voice;in semantic dimension,such as duplicate and inappropriate information for target language readers;in communicative dimension,target readers can easily discover not-adjusting operating order,and there is not having necessary language environment information.In view of features of Siemens product manual—language norms,semantic neutrality as well as practicability,the translator uses the following techniques during the process of translation practice.In language dimension: the author complies with target language expressive norms,uses strong-tone verbs and active voice;in semantic dimension: the author merges the same information and changes the wrong information;in communicative dimension: the author rewrites the target text,adjusts operating order in the product manual,and adds some necessary translational environment information. |
