| The Khoshut was one of the tribes of the Four Oirats,which broke with the East Mongolia in the early fifteenth century and became flourishing when Esen was in power,unifying tribes in Mongolia.The Oirats migrated to the west after the death of Esen,suffering crackdowns from East Mongolia and the Khalkhas.At the beginning of the seventeenth century,Four Oirats gained independence under the leadership of Khoshut.In 1639,led by Güüshi Khan,Khoshut went to the south to occupy Tibet-Plateauat at the Gelug’s invitation and established the Khoshut Khanate,implementing different institutions in different regions.In the last years of Emperor Kangxi,domestic unrest occurred in Khoshut Khanate.Troops of the Qing dynasty dislodged the Zunghar,who occupied Lhasa and repressed the rebels of Luwsabdanzan,completely conquering Qinghai.In order to rule Mongolia,the Qing dynasty split the Khoshut Khanate and pursued Mengqi institutions.Zunghar and Tibet influenced Qing’s attitude towards Alshan Khoshut,who fled to Gansu under the pressure of Zunghar.Following Torgut’s eastward migration to Xinjiang,Khoshut in Xinjiang remained their original Khan institutions.Considering this point,the Qing dynasty preserved their original social organization,pushing the Mengqi institutions after a few years. |
