| According to the Chinese Primary and Secondary School Students’ English Graded Reading Standard(Experimental draft),teachers need to improve students’ reading experience and ability.But during the internship,the researcher finds there are some problems in students’ reading learning.Only a few students can actively answer the questions and participate in activities,students’ reading experience is not good,students also lack the ability of mastering language knowledge,and the ability of understanding the text.So it is necessary to apply an effective teaching model to solve these problems.Through analyzing the teaching model at home and abroad,the researcher finds that the ESA(Engage,Study,Activate)teaching model emphasizes the engagement of students,the language knowledge study,and the use of the language knowledge.Under ESA teaching model,students’ learning experience and ability can be improved.Therefore,the researcher tries to apply ESA teaching model to help students improve reading experience and reading ability.This study mainly focus on the following two problems:(1)What are the effects of ESA teaching model on students’ reading experience?(2)What are the effects of ESA teaching model on students’ reading ability?The researcher conducted a 3-month action research in this research from October to December of 2020.The subjects of this study are the students of Class 8,Grade 2 from a senior high school in Shenyang.There are 43 students in the class.Research instruments applied in this study were classroom observation,questionnaires and interviews.Software SPSS 22.0 was used to analyze the results of the questionnaires.Each round of action research includes four steps: identifying problem,making the action plan,implementing the action plan,as well as reflection and evaluation.The results show that ESA teaching model have great effects on students’ reading experience and ability.Students are more interested in English reading,have the positive attitude towards reading.Furthermore,students’ ability of mastering language knowledge,the ability of understanding the text have been improved significantly. |
