| As a language skill,reading can not only enrich students’ language knowledge,but also cultivate students’ thinking ability.According to Chinese Primary and Middle School Students’ Graded English Reading Standards(Experimental Draft),teachers need to improve students’ reading experience.However,the current situation of high school students’ English reading is not optimistic.Only a few students can actively participate in class activities and answer questions in the reading class.Students have a weak sense of reading experience and a low enthusiasm to participate in class.Therefore,how to break the traditional reading teaching mode,optimize students’ reading experience and improve classroom participation is an important issue facing English reading teaching at present.Through the analysis of teaching models at home and abroad,researchers find that ESA teaching model provides methods and ideas to solve this problem.ESA teaching model is a teaching model proposed by British teaching expert Jeremy Harmer in 1998,which consists of three elements: Engage,Study and Activate.Compared with the traditional teaching mode,the outstanding advantage of ESA teaching mode is that it emphasizes the clever transformation of the order of the three elements according to the characteristics of students and teaching content,so as to obtain better reading teaching effect.In order to improve high school students’ English reading experience and classroom participation,this study adopts action research method,classroom observation method,questionnaire method and interview method.Based on constructivism theory and graphic theory,this study takes students in a class of senior high school in Zhangzhou City as the research objects to carry out a three-month action research on the application of ESA teaching mode and English reading teaching.Through questionnaire survey,interview and classroom observation,relevant data were collected and summarized,aiming at studying the following issues:(1)Can high school English reading teaching based on ESA teaching model enrich students’ English reading experience?(2)Can high school English reading teaching based on ESA teaching model improve students’ classroom participation?(3)Can high school English reading teaching based on ESA teaching model improve students’ English reading performance?The following conclusions are drawn from the research:(1)ESA teaching mode can enrich students’ English reading experience.(2)ESA teaching model can improve students’ classroom participation.(3)ESA teaching mode can improve students’ English reading performance.Finally,based on the research results,this paper reflects on and summarizes the limitations in the research process,and proposes teaching inspiration and research prospects from the perspective of practical teaching,so as to enrich students’ experience in the English reading process,improve their participation in English reading class and help students better improve their English reading performance. |
