The source text for this translation project excerpts from Women,Work and Autoimmune Disease, which focuses on the performance of females with autoimmune diseases in workplaces. The author describes their plight and proposes some solutions.Their personal experiences are narrated from the perspective of a third person, which provides some reference for the research on how the females suffering from various diseases perform in workplaces. In this sense, the translation of this work is of practical significance to some extent. The translation is discussed under the theoretical strategy proposed by Professor Li Changshuan, which named “Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation”.Based on the typical problems with comprehension, expression and adaptation, some specific case studies are collected to conduct in-depth analysis and proposed the appropriate solutions. In respect of comprehension, the main problems include the transformation of nouns into verbs, the understanding of the sentence structures, and the connection between individual paragraphs. These problems require reference to be made to relevant grammar textbooks. As for expression, the main issues include the choice of appropriate Chinese words, the breakdown of complex sentences and the avoidance of translationese.Solving them required the translators to gain a full understanding of how it is expressed in Chinese in the exact field.Concerning adaptation, the main problems include the avoided translation of certain words, the simplification of what a sentence means and the choice of appropriate ways of expression depending on the exact ideology, which relies mainly on the addition or removal of some information to get a flexible translation.Although having guidance, the author is still ambiguous in the translation of some words and sentences. The reason is that no theoretical strategy which can describe the translation process completely. It is determined by the complexity of translation and the different personalities of translators.
