A Report On The English-Chinese Translation For The United Nations Chinese Translation Service

The United Nations is now the largest and most influential international organization in the world.It produces a huge number of documents every day,which leads to great demand for multilingual translation.The author got the valuable opportunity to participate in the United Nations Secretariat Remote Practicum Programme from February 2019 to October 2019.From July 2019 to September 2019,the author was honored to work as an intern in the Chinese Translation Service of the United Nations New York Headquarters.The author translated more than 40,000 words of UN documents during the internship and gradually developed the idea of writing this reportDuring the internship,the author translated documents from UN General Assembly,Security Council,Economic and Social Council,Third Committee and other departments,covering human rights,sustainable development,anti-terrorism and other topics.This report elaborates on the two translation practices,and uses the framework of "Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation(CEA)" proposed by Li Changshuan to analyze translation problems.Through the research,the author classified some problems occurred when translating UN documents,and puts forward solutions and some matters needing attention.This report aims to provide some useful information for future interns.Hopefully,this report could,at the same time,provide some references for translators who wish to work in the language department of the United Nations.
