With the development of the times,cooperative learning is widely used in teaching.Since cooperative learning has been introduced into China,its related experiments and research have taken root in the field of education in China.In order to conform to the times,the new curriculum standard also advocates the concept of cooperative learning.In order to improve the effectiveness of their class teaching,many English teachers implement group cooperative learning in their English class teaching,but the effect is not satisfactory.Therefore,based on the primary school teaching practice,the author is committed to know about the teachers’and students’attitude towards the implementation of group cooperative learning in primary school English classroom,mining its implementation status,including the problems existing in the implementation process of group cooperative learning in primary school English class,then analyzing the factors affecting the effectiveness of group cooperative learning,and accordingly putting forward practical strategies to improve the effectiveness of group cooperative learning in primary school English class.On the basis of literature research,this paper first explores the theoretical basis for the implementation of group cooperative learning in primary school English class.Taking 85 fourth grade students and 3 English teachers of a primary school in Wuhan as the research objects,based on the research results at home and abroad and the specific situation of the primary school,this paper uses four research tools:questionnaire,interview,English proficiency test and classroom observation.The results of the investigation of the attitude of teachers and students towards the implementation of group cooperative learning in the primary school show that:(1)group cooperative learning is generally welcomed by teachers and students;(2)students’ academic performance in English is related to their attitude towards cooperative learning;(3)Different levels of learners are influenced by group cooperative learning differently;(4)the attitude of primary school English teachers and students towards group cooperative learning is related to the effective implementation of group cooperative learning.For the current situation of group cooperative learning,we find that there are four main problems existing in the process of group cooperative learning in primary school English class:1)the grouping is unreasonable;2)the design of group cooperative learning activities is unreasonable;3)teachers’ role consciousness is vague;4)students lack of cooperation ability and skills.Through the research,it is found that the following factors have great influence on the effectiveness of group cooperative learning:1)grouping;2)the duration of group activities;3)the design of group activity task;4)teachers’ role;5)students’personality;6)students’ English language ability and level;7)evaluation.Based on the above research results,in order to make the group cooperative learning more effective,the author puts forward the following suggestions:1)build reasonable cooperative learning groups scientifically;2)design appropriate goals and activities;3)cultivate cooperative skills;4)strengthen English skills training;5)evaluate the cooperative results comprehensively.Under the requirements of the new curriculum standard,teachers should strengthen the implementation of group cooperative learning in English classroom teaching,be willing to use group cooperative learning,improve personal professional ability,constantly improve the effectiveness of group cooperative learning in English classroom teaching,so as to promote the comprehensive development of students.
