A Report On C-E Translation Of Academic Texts From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

The rapid development of tourism has brought serious damage to tourism resources,which has attracted the attention and research of experts and scholars at home and abroad,and the research results are presented in the form of academic texts.Therefore,accurate translation of academic texts is of great importance to the protection of tourism resources.This paper is a report on the practice of C-E translation.The translator chooses Hot Issues of Tourism Development in Guizhou Province,compiled by professor Hu Beiming,as the practical text.The book is the research result of special project of Guizhou tourism development in 2013,which is composed of six independent research reports.The part for translation practice is selected from topic 5--the research on the protection and utilization of human tourism resources in the process of urbanization.The selected part contains more than 10000 words,and discusses the protection and utilization of humanistic tourism resources in the urbanization construction.Guided by Nida’s functional equivalence theory,this report explores the feasibility of functional equivalence theory in guiding translation practice.According to the requirements of functional equivalence theory,it analyzes the difficulties encountered in vocabulary,syntax,text and style in the process of practice in combination with specific cases,and finds appropriate translation methods under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)In vocabulary translation,the translator should understand the meaning of words in order to find the appropriate vocabulary corresponding to it,and make appropriate conversion when necessary.(2)In syntactic translation,proper subjects should be added to conform to the grammatical rules of the target language,and voice conversion should be carried out to conform to the usage habits of the target language.(3)In text translation,attention should be paid to the cohesion and coherence of the context.(4)In the aspect of stylistic style communication,we should carefully identify similar terms and verify them with the help of literature,pay attention to the rigor and logicality of dictionaries,and add appropriate relative words.
