On October 31st,2020,the author conducted an E-C SI for an online lecture Does It Matter How You Write It,and the lecturer was Professor Haun Saussy from the University of Chicago. The lecturer took the ancient Shijing manuscripts as an example to raise a discussion on the influence of different ways of writing on written texts. The author benefited a lot from the content of the lecture in the meantime she found that she made many mistakes in this interpreting practice. To find out specific problems and propose solutions, the author transcribed the recording of the interpreting process for careful analysis and wrote this report based on the analysis. In this report, through analyzing the transcripts and the result of the audience’s feedback, the author summarized three major problems that occurred in her language production, namely, misinterpreting, redundancy, and illogicality. The author consulted a large number of previous theories and studies of interpreting and found that Interpretive Theory may serve as guidance in providing solutions to the above-mentioned three problems.Through further study, she put forward countermeasures such as inference, omission, simplification, and reformulation under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory.Through this interpreting practice, the author realizes that the success of an interpreting task not only demands a wealth of knowledge reserves, but the use of proper interpreting measures is also vital. The author hopes that this report may be of some referential value to other student interpreters.
