Strategies For EN-CH Simultaneous Interpreting Of Online Medical Conferences From The Perspective Of Interpretive Theory Of Translation

Based on the interpretive theory of translation(ITT),the study focuses on the strategies in online medical conference EN-CH simultaneous interpreting.The study selects the"Global Neurosurgery:Ask Not for Whom the Bell Tolls",a symposium held by the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies(WFNS)as the material and used the playback of three speeches during the symposium as the cases,including Management of Facial Nerve in Neurosurgery,Chiari Malformations,and COVID-19 Stressors:A Team Approach.They feature complete and clear bilingual playback with English as the source language and Chinese as the target one.The symposium was held in September 2020,which gives it a strong timeliness.The interpreters come from the simultaneous interpreting team of Xuanwu Hospital Capital Medical University.They have professional medical knowledge and clinical thinking ability as well as practical experience in simultaneous interpreting.After categorical analysis,the author makes a detailed analysis and explanation of interpreters’ simultaneous interpreting strategies,and puts forward suggestions for improvement on the shortcomings,to bring more inspirations for students and interpreters.In the thesis,the author summarizes the characteristics of online medical conferences.Online medical conferences make communications more convenient,but may lead to the lack of interactivity.The contents are usually highly professional with gobs of terms and feature huge differences among different sub-disciplines.All above pose challenges and pressure to the interpreters.Through case study,the author summarizes the interpreting strategies of online medical conferences as follows:leverage background knowledge,apply simplification,integrate logic and resort to slides.
